Girls Camp 2022 Report and Photos

(This report is written by Sister Grace of our Oblate group)

Dear Sodality members and friends,

In July we had our annual Girls Camp, which turned out to be a huge success. We had about 47 girls attending, which is the most we have ever had, plus a few who joined in at the last minutes.

We started each day with Mass and breakfast, followed either by games, crafts, scrapbooking or puppet show prep. We also had a baking competition in which some of the clergy came to judge. Before letting the younger girls go home for the evening, we said our daily rosary. In the evenings we did things slightly different this camp.

The first evening we had a scavenger hunt in which about 15 girls on 2 team were racing to solve puzzles scattered across the church grounds. This involved unscrambling words to using the answers to previous puzzles or riddles to solve the next ones. This was a lot of fun and tested some of the girls on their knowledge. This was followed by the girls own square dance and board games before calling it a night.

On the second evening, Sister Cecilia organized for the girls to go to EnterTRAINment Junction, which has a few mazes and fun illusions of all sorts. The girls really had fun here. I think a few got lost in the mirror maze but we got everyone back safely and in time for dinner. Shortly after dinner we went back out to attend the monthly Fatima Rosary procession on July 13th that happened to fall on Girls Camp this year. The procession was a quite large and successful this time with 125 attendants!

Overall Girls’ Camp went really well this year. The girls and I would like to give a huge thanks to the Sister Cecilia and the other ladies on the Girls camp committee for organizing this and making this happen. We really appreciate it and can’t wait for next year! I also want to give thanks to Anna Kolenich for the scavenger hunt, Bp. McGuire for the sermons and spiritual talk, Fr. Lehtoranta for having said a Mass for all our Sodality members on the feast of St. Maria Goretti, July 9th, and all our donors. Thank you!

Upcoming events to look forward to:

Remember that August 3rd is the first Wednesday of the month, dedicated to St. Joseph, the patron of our Sodality. Try come and attend Mass if you can or say a little prayer in honor of our heavenly patron.

August 13th will be our next Sodality meeting. After the morning high Mass, we will have breakfast and then attend the Fatima Rosary Procession. Afterwards we will continue like we always do.

On September 11th, the Solemnity of the Holy Name of Mary, Sister Cecilia and I will have our investiture. We will be given the Holy Face Medal and receive our new religious names. This is the start of our novitiate. This date is also the anniversary of our dear Fr. Cekada’s death. Please keep him in your prayers.

Yours in Christ,

Sister Grace
